Browsing the condiments aisle at Sainsbury’s yesterday, I was very excited – not to say startled – to notice nestling amongst other, less prestigious brands “Barry Norman Pickled Onions”. How, you may ask, did this particular celebrity endorsement come about? I certainly did! Who, wishing to shift more onions, crossed celebs off the list until arriving at this particular pairing?

Needing to know more, I instinctively turned to Google. In transpires that this is not your usual cash in, but that the opportunity came about through a combination of Norman’s pickling talent and his friendship with a marketing executive, who also happens to be “very possibly the world’s leading aficionado of pickled onions.” There’s more, but the story is better told by the man himself – for which I can only refer you to Norman’s own site; the brilliantly named Pickleodeon. Good luck to him!
