Have you ever embarked on a task that seemed like a good idea at inception, but actually takes a lot more time and effort that you’d really expected?

So it was with the creation of my replica cup to celebrate Wolves’ Championship victory.

Monty collapses under the weight of expectation

Still, I think you’ll agree that it was worth it in the end, especially when Monty Magpie (that deluded Newcastle supporting beastie – pictured), enraged by his owns team’s even poorer recent record in bringing home silverware, made a lunge for the cup only to trip and fall. Read more about my past alercations with with the poor little creature.

But while Monty has a few more games to suffer through, we can all start thinking of the long hot summer ahead and look forward to a golden future.Let’s savour this moment, because it’s not going to be the same next year.

Still, I for one, cannot wait!

Wolves are up and for once in our lives we can all sit back, relax and enjoy the last two weeks of the season, happy to watch everyone else sweat, and perhaps let our thoughts turn to next season in the Premier League. The noises coming out of Molineux are promising: we’ve learned from our last, all too brief, spell at the top table; Mick’s learned from his own disasterous Premier League season with Sunderland; and we know that while we have an exceptionally promising young squad, we need to strengthen. Time only will tell, but Wolves look a whole lot more ready this time around.

Molineux was, if that is ever possible, positively relaxed at kick off, or at least the nervous tension didn’t show quite as much. The team was brilliant – it was very clear how much they wanted the win, a desire most clearly epitomised by Andy Keogh and Dave Edwards chasing everything. Jody Craddock had an amazing games in defence and Matt Jarvis, Karl Henry and Stephen Ward also deserve a special mention. And Kevin Foley, reliable as ever. And Wayne Hennessey and Cristophe Berra and Dave Jones and Sam Vokes and Richard Stearman and Marlon Harewood, thoroughly deserving it to a man. And do you know, I even forgot Ebanks-Blake, scoring the goal that won it!

I think, however, that his memory may not be quite a long as this Wolfie’s on both scores, as this image from my 1953 programme tends to contradict him.

What a day. I’ve written a bit more about it in my blog because, I don’t know if you noticed, but it’s the game that won Wolves a place in the top flight for only the second time in 25 years.

The game itself, well, who really cares. A win’s a win, but to be fair Wolves could have made things a little less nervous in the final 15 if they’d put away a few more of their chances, but by the same measure, QPR could have been real party poopers had a their which hit the crossbar fallen another couple of inches lower. Ultimately, Wolves were deserved winners, and will be in the premier league next year.
