…The Heroes Run.

Proof, if proof were needed

Proof, if proof were needed

Last Sunday I joined a thousand or other similarly fancy dressed young (and slightly less young) people to take part in the annual Heroes Run, an annual trot along Hove seafront in aid of local charity passingiton.

Readers with exceptionally good memories may remember that I attended last year’s event, but I’m pleased to announce that actually completed the 5k this year.  It was genuinely a very fun event and, as I think this picture will show, I was far from the weirdest superhero on the run.

Spiderman and his slightly disproportionately sized sidekick

Bat-Wolfie and his disproportionately sized sidekick, Spiderman

In this football lull, I want to take the opportunity share some of my other cultural interest with you, and to reminisce about the 2009 ‘Heroes Run’ which took place on Hove seafront earlier this year.  It was a really fun event in support of the Passingiton charity, and a great excuse (were an excuse needed) to do a bit of dressing up. And it turns out that there are literally hundreads of people out there just waiting for any opportunity to dig out the lycra and get running.

The event even saw the record for the ‘largest number of superheroes in one place’ broken, although sadly I don’t think I got counted.  Possibly they were out off by the slightly alarming rubber effect all over body suit I was wearing.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the other Batman used such low quality fabrics.  Tut Bear Factory.

We all love a bit of dressing up

We all love a bit of dressing up

My ranting stage is over and I’m now looking forward to the start of the next season. To amuse myself until that time, I have enlisted the help of some old friends to put together a little story. Click on the thumbnail to the right to read the thrilling tale of how Bat-Wolfie and Magpie saved the day (and then are saved in turn by the rather scary looking Wendy).

Please note that no animals of any kind were harmed in the telling of this tale.

To the Batmobile, Wolfie

To the Batmobile, Wolfie

Well, here’s a turn up for the books – WorldWideWolfie has gone missing! Fear not though, for Bat-Wolfie is here to ramble instead. All together now… Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Bat-Wolfie. As you’ll all be aware, it was the last day of the season today, but we’re all still stroppy about that so just read about it here, alright.

As I’ve mentioned, this outfit was kindly provided by Wolfie’s own costumier ‘Build-a-Bear Workshop’. The only drawback was the interrogation we all had from the five-year old child in the shop about exactly what the purpose of the outfit was. Like a terrier with a bone – people of Dudley, please learn – sometimes people just don’t want to go into details.

I’m sure the real Wolfie will be back soon. In the meantime, they’ll never find out Bat-Wolfie’s true identity. Mwah ha ha.
